Cowboy Wrestling Seniors Say Farewell
February 09, 2006 | Cowboy Wrestling
The dual will be the final home match for five Cowboy seniors who are all regulars in the Cowboy lineup. The senior class has been the most productive senior class in the last 50 years winning three NCAA team championships and four individual titles.
“We have some great seniors finishing out their home career in Gallagher-Iba Arena,” head coach John Smith said. “I am excited for them, they have had a great career here up to this point. It is definitely a special night for our seniors.”
The Cowboys will then venture to Oklahoma City to tangle with top-ranked Minnesota at the Ford Center. OSU will have a chance to avenge its only loss on the season against the Gophers.
The Minnesota dual is the second half of the ESPNU Double Sport Wrestling Invitational. Oklahoma and Hofstra wrestle first starting at noon followed by the Cowboys and Gophers.
The Cowboys have compiled a record of 106-7 over the last six seasons with four of those seven losses coming at the hands of the Gophers, including a 21-14 setback in the championship match of the National Duals.
“If we want to reclaim the top spot going into the end of the year, this is the time to do it,” Smith said. “I am looking forward to it and hope we wrestle better than we did at the National Duals.
“We would love for OSU fans to come to Gallagher-Iba on Friday evening for senior night and head to the Ford Center on Sunday. It will be a special weekend. These are important matches for us and I hope that we get the support from our Oklahoma State fans.
“I expect to have a similar crowd that the Hornets get.”
