Six Cowgirls Set Personal Marks at Weekend Meets

SOUTH BEND, Ind. Â– Oklahoma State's women's track and field team had six student-athletes set personal record marks at the J.D. Martin Invitational and Meyo Invitational, this weekend.

“We had a lot of girls set personal marks,” Cowgirl head coach Rene Sepulveda said. “Our team is moving in the right direction.”

At the J.D. Martin Invitational in Norman, Okla., the Pokes were led behind the running and throwing attacks of Kim Blomkvist and LaKendra Greathouse inside the Mosier Indoor Track.

Blomkvist, a sophomore from Strangnas, Sweden finished with a time of 10:35.28 in the 3,000-meter run to capture the win over teammate, sophomore Brittany Hill. Hill ran a time of 10:45.47, while junior Stephanie Lovely finished fourth with a personal record time of 10:55.75.

Senior Alison Erzinger was impressive running unattached, as the All-American set personal record marks in the 600-yard run and 60-meter hurdles. Erzingers' victory in the 600-yard run came in a time of 1:23.24, while she ran a time of 8.65 in the 60-meter hurdles.

In the field events, OSU was led by Greathouses' first-place performance in the shot put and a second-place finish from Baiba Blumbaha in the high jump.

Greathouse, a sophomore from Gonzales, Texas threw a personal record of 48'3.5” (14.72-meters), while freshman Merritt Dietz finished seventh in the shot put with a toss of 41'8.5” (12.71-meters).

In the weight throw, sophomore Branighan Vann continued to improve as she set a personal record of 46'4.75” (14.14-meters).

Blumbaha, a freshman from Talsi, Latvia, led the Cowgirl jumpers with an impressive 5'4.25” (1.63-meters) mark in the high jump.

In the long jump, OSU received two top ten finishes from sophomore Moira Steyn (fifth-place) and senior Melissa N'Dubilo (10^th-place). The duo finished with jumps of 18'7.75” (5.68-meters) and 17'9” (5.41-meters).

Freshman Mateja Posavec led OSU in the triple jump, as she finished second with a jump of 39'7.25” (12.07-meters). Steyn finished fourth with a jump of 38'11” (11.86-meters).

The Cowgirls then had three runners compete at the Meyo Invitational in South Bend, Ind., inside the Loftus Sports Center.

In the mile run, OSU was led by junior Eva Slavikova, who finished ninth with a time of 4:55.73. Sophomore Eva Tomankova then set a personal record time of 4:57.42 to finish 13^th in the event that featured 36 runners.

Freshman Nina Andersson, a native of Helsingborg, Sweden, capped the day off for the Cowgirls with a personal record finish in the 3,000-meter run. Andersson finished 14^th, as she improved nearly 15 seconds in the event with a time of 9:45.30.

The Cowgirls will continue indoor action Friday, Feb. 10, at the Iowa State Invitational in Ames, Iowa.
