A day after being no-hit for the first time in school history, the Cowboys wasted little time regaining their offensive clout as they scored two runs on three hits in the top of the first inning off George Mason starter Brent Hitz.
Junior Ty Wright jump started the offense with a double to right-center field and later came in to score on Shelby Ford's double down the left-field line. Ford then scored on an RBI single by Tyler Mach that made the score 2-0.
In the third inning, OSU sophomore Corey Brown connected on a solo home run, his first of the season, which sailed over the right-center field wall and began a three-run inning for the Cowboys. That rally made the score 5-0 and was the first of three 3-run innings on the day for coach Frank Anderson's ballclub.
That was more than enough run support for OSU starter Jared Swart. In his first career start in a Cowboy uniform, the right hander tossed six scoreless innings, striking out six and allowing just one walk, to earn the win.
Leading an OSU offense that finished with 18 hits was Wright, who finished 4-for-6 at the plate with three RBIs. Ford also drove in three runs, while Tyler Mach was 3-for-5 with a pair of RBIs.
George Mason (0-3) posted its lone run on a home run by Robby Jacobsen in the bottom of the eighth inning.
With Sunday's win, OSU improved to 2-1 on the season. The Cowboys return to action Friday in their home opener against
