Cowgirl Soccer Signs Four Prep Standouts
February 01, 2006 | Cowgirl Soccer
The Cowgirls inked a pair of teammates from Wylie, Texas. Kasey Langdon and Bridget Miller both play for Wylie High School and have led the Dallas Texans Â88 Red to two state championships. Langdon was named an NSCAA Youth All-American and is listed by Soccer Buzz Magazine as a top 100 national recruit. Langdon was an All-Region selection for Wylie High, while Miller was an All-District selection. Both players were members of the Region 3 Olympic Development Team.
“Kasey is a tremendous attacking player,” co-head coach Colin Carmichael said. “She has the ability to score goals and create chances from midfield. We expect Kasey to contribute immediately.
“Bridget is an excellent athlete who can play either in defense or midfield. She is a tenacious player who has a very tough mentality. Bridget should add a physical dimension to our team.”
Miller was also named the Gatorade Player of the Year in 2004 and 2005. She chose Oklahoma State over Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Baylor, TCU, Xavier and Arkansas.
OSU added Bixby native Siera Strawser to the class. Strawser is a team captain for her club team, six-time state champion Tulsa Hurricane FC Â89. She is a three time All-District selection for Bixby High School and a member of the Oklahoma state ODP team. Strawser will play midfield for the Cowgirls in the fall.
“Siera is an outstanding attacking player who always seems to score goals,” Carmichael commented on the lone instate signee. “She is a proven scorer at the high school, club and ODP levels. Siera should add to our attacking options
The fourth signee to the Cowgirl recruiting class is German native Annika Niemeier. Niemeier is a current member of the U-20 German national team. The defender/midfielder from Willingen-Usseln, Germany, was teammates with current Cowgirl Angelika Feldbacher on the U-19 German national team.
“Annika is a very technical player whose passing ability is exceptional,” Carmichael added. “She reads the game extremely well whether in midfield or defense. Her international experience should allow her to make an immediate impact.”
Niemeier started every game of the 2005 European Championships in Russia for the U-19 team. She was a member of the 2005 World Champion team that took first-place in Thailand. Niemeier played a total of 15 games for the U-19 German National team and scored one goal. She also has 18 appearances for the U-17 team. Niemeier chose to play for the Cowgirls over UCLA and Utah.
“We are very pleased with the 2006 class,” Carmichael said about the 2006 class. “All four of these players should contribute to our team immediately. We feel that we have filled our needs with this class, and cannot wait for them to report for pre-season.
“With our strong core of returning veterans and the addition of these four prep stars, we are very optimistic about the upcoming season.”
The Cowgirls started spring practice Jan. 30. OSU's spring soccer schedule begins Feb. 24 with two games in Austin, Texas. The Cowgirls will be home on March 25 against SMU and again on April 8 for three games to close out the spring season.
