Cowboys Happy To Be Practicing On Christmas Day
December 25, 2006 | Cowboy Football
The Oklahoma State Cowboys wrapped up their third Independence Bowl practice on a cold, rainy Christmas day in Shreveport.
OSU head coach Mike Gundy continued to be pleased with the focus and effort of the Cowboys' practices.
“Practice was good today,” Gundy said. “We have had three good practices. Our players are enthusiastic and are enjoying each other. They are out there having fun. That is what bowl games are all about.”
Added OSU linebacker Rodrick Johnson, “Going to a bowl is the best Christmas present we could get. We were kind of down last year because we were at home last year for Christmas. We were with our family, which was good, but watching all those bowls on TV was depressing. This is my Christmas present.”
Following practice, the Cowboys returned to the team hotel for meetings. The team will have Christmas dinner together tonight and then either head to the movies or spend some down time at the hotel.
“There was a lot of holiday cheer (at practice),” said OSU wide receiver D'Juan Woods. “We got over the fact that today was Christmas early. We had to go out there to prepare. We will try to celebrate Christmas after practice.
“We will probably play some cards or dominoes. Nothing is really open tonight. We might play some video games in the hospitality room. Just hang out.”
Following practice, several Cowboys shared their favorite Christmas gifts and also had Merry Christmas messages for friends and family.

“I actually have about two hours until I have to be at our next function. I am going to try and do it then. I am hoping to find something at the boardwalk. I tell (my wife) it is Christmas everyday at our house. She understands that with my job it is hard to get out.”

Favorite gift
“I got a Build-A-Bear from my ex-girlfriend. That's unless my current girlfriend can top her this year. I won't find that out until later.”
Merry Christmas
“I want to wish my family a Merry Christmas, my grandparents, all my brothers, my girlfriend, my mom and dad and all of my relatives. I also want to wish a Merry Christmas to my childhood friend Sophia. She goes to Alabama and does not know who she is going to root for yet.”

“I got a PlayStation 3 this year. It is fun. It is like real life. My girlfriend got it for me.”
