Oklahoma State Post-Practice Quotes
Dec. 23, 2006 • Shreveport, La.
OSU head coach Mike Gundy
On today's practice
“We had a good practice. A lot of times you're concerned about the first bowl practice. Obviously the players are excited to be here and having had three or four days off, but we moved around very well and did a good job. We're looking forward to the week here.”
“Our goal was to have a nice two-hour practice and run them some. They handled it well. We scrimmaged a little bit. I wanted the guys to set their pads and bang heads a little bit. They haven't really done a lot in three or four days.”
On keeping the team focused
“The most difficult part is when you first get here. The players are excited to be here and excited about the Independence Bowl. The people have treated us great. You have to leave that behind and come over and practice. But we did a good job of focusing on the practice. That's due to our senior leadership. We have great senior leadership and that's knowing what's important, which is having a good time and then practicing and preparing well.”
Sophomore quarterback Bobby Reid
On today's practice
“Our coaches and training staff try to get the most out of us everyday. Today was our first day back after we had about three days off. Some of the guys are a little tight, but that is how it is. It will not take us long to get back on track.”
On Oklahoma State fans
“Our fans are one of a kind. If we had to play somewhere in California, we would probably sell out all our tickets. That is how faithful our fans are. They love us and this program. We love them back.”
On the offense
“Those were our goals this year, to eliminate turnovers and make explosive plays. Since last January we have made it our goal to get back to a bowl game this year. All the hard work is paying off.”
On the Alabama defense
“Those guys are well organized and they know what to do. They play in arguably the toughest conference in the nation. We are taking it as a challenge. It is going to be a good game on Thursday.”
Junior wide receiver Adarius Bowman
On getting back to practice
“It was nice to get back to practice and get back in the groove of things. It was nice to go back home and get to see my family, but it is time to get back to playing football. It felt good out there today.”
On being in Shreveport
“I have not been down here long, but it has been great. They are treating us great. We are going to have a good time here. I have not made it down to the boardwalk yet, but I have heard good things about it.”
On playing in the Independence Bowl
“Our coaches have really stressed to us how much of a privilege this is. We put a lot of hard work into this season. We wished it would have gone better, but we look at the bowl game like it is a celebration of the year. At the same time, we are down here to win.”
