Cowgirl Soccer Garners Postseason Recognition
December 12, 2006 | Cowgirl Soccer
The Central Region is the largest region in the country representing 68 schools, including the entire Big 12 and part of the SEC.
Odenyo led the Cowgirls with 18 points on the season by scoring five goals and assisting on eight others, while playing mostly a defensive midfield position. The Uppsala, Sweden native has filled her trophy case as she was named Big 12 Co-Player of the Year and named first team All-American by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.
The coaching duo of Karen Hancock and Colin Carmichael took the Cowgirls to the NCAA Tournament for just the second time in school history. OSU defeated UNC-Greensboro for its first ever tournament win and finished the season with a program best 17-3-3 record. The Cowgirls finished second in the Big 12 and were ranked 12th in the final poll released by Soccer Buzz.
Odenyo was also named to the All-Central Region first team. Fellow Cowgirls Niccole Grimaldi and Siera Strawser earned third team recognition. Junior Grimaldi led the Big 12 with nine assists, while Strawser scored five goals and had six assists in her freshman season. Strawser was also named to the All-Freshman team along with teammate Bridget Miller.
