Cowboy Football Holds Annual Awards Banquet

The Oklahoma State football team held its annual awards banquet on Sunday in the Student Union. The voice of Cowboy football, Dave Hunziker, served as the master of ceremonies.
Junior wide receiver Adarius Bowman was presented with the Bob Fenimore Award, which is presented to the team's most valuable player. The talented transfer made his first season in Stillwater one to remember as he caught 57 passes for 1,131 yards and 11 touchdowns on his way to All-Big 12 honors.
Quarterback Bobby Reid won the Thurman Thomas Award as the offensive MVP. The sophomore passed for 2,054 yards and 23 touchdowns during the regular season. He had an efficiency rating of 151.86 and was a threat on the ground as he rushed 466 yards.
The Leslie O'Neal Award (defensive MVP) was presented to Victor DeGrate for his play on defense. The senior lead the team with 8.5 sacks even though he missed all or part of three games due to injury. DeGrate has 16 career sacks, the seventh best total in Cowboy history.
Grant Jones was named the special team MVP for his outstanding season as a kick returner. The senior currently leads the nation with a 30.4 yard per return average. He also became the first player in six years to return a kickoff for a touchdown against Texas. Jones was named to the Rivals.com All-American team.
Also winning awards were junior Martel Van Zant, who won the Mike Johnson Award for his outstanding spirit and enthusiasm, and senior Darnell Smith, who took home the Dr. L.L. Boger Award for his work in the classroom. Senior Kurt Seifried won the Barry Sanders Awards. That award goes to the player with the greatest contribution with the least amount of recognition.
Offensive tackle Russell Okung and linebacker Patrick Lavine were given the Dick Bogert Award for outstanding freshman honors, both players earned freshman all-american honors this season.
The Cowboys will wrap up the 2006 season when they play Alabama at the Independence Bowl in Shreveport, La., on Dec. 28 at 3:30 p.m.
