Trio of Cowboys Named to Freshman All-America Team
November 30, 2006 | Cowboy Football
First-team All-America selections are linebacker Patrick Lavine and kick returner Perrish Cox. On the second team is linebacker Chris Collins.
Lavine, from Houston's Jersey Village High School, started the final seven games of 2006 and ended the regular season second on the Oklahoma State squad with 66 tackles. Included in that total are nine tackles behind the line of scrimmage and two quarterback sacks. His season totals also include an interception, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery.
Cox has been one of the top return men in college football this season. The Waco University High School product opened the season with a 96-yard kickoff return against Missouri State. Through the 12-game regular season, Cox is No. 12 nationally in punt returns, averaging 12.8 yards per try. He also averages 23.8 yards per kickoff return and is 38th nationally in that category.
Collins may have been on his way to the best season among all freshmen Cowboys before he was sidelined with an injury against Kansas. Despite playing in just six games, Collins is 10th on the OSU squad with 31 tackles. He had 3.5 tackles for loss, blocked a kick and scored a touchdown on a three-yard fumble return against Florida Atlantic.
