OSU Quotes
Head Coach Mike Gundy
On the play of the defense
“We challenged out defense on Monday. I challenged our front guys to get pressure on the quarterback and try to force him to hurry throws and put him in an uncomfortable situation. I don't think there is any question that they did that early in the game. Our secondary and our linebackers played the ball really well today, better than they have played it all year when the ball was in the air.”
On the play of the offense
“It was a good day for us. Offensively were able to run the ball very effectively. We didn't attempt too many passes. We attempted about 15, which was probably about 10 too many with the success we had running the football. I think you can attribute that to our guys up front. Our running backs did a nice job of making some guys miss. Bobby (Reid) handled himself well.”
On the running game
“We have improved in many areas since last year and one of those is the running game. I think our guys understand our system. I think the tempo and the way that we have been able to control the game has been effective for our team. Being able to snap the ball in a hurry and being able to change pace has worked well for us, and obviously the addition of (Keith) Toston and (Dantrell) Savage has made a difference.”
OSU Player Quotes
Sophomore Tight End Brandon Pettigrew
On the victory over Baylor
“It was a good day for me and the team. We had a good week at practice and we felt good about our game plan heading into today's game. Today, we went out and executed everything we worked on in practice.”
On being bowl eligible
“It feels good to be bowl eligible. My teammates and I are excited about the accomplishment.”
Junior Guard David Koenig
On comparing this year's running game to last year's
“Compared to last season, we have been doing the same things in our running game. Now we have the reputation and guys who are pushing themselves a lot harder. Dantrell (Savage), Keith (Toston) and Mike (Hamilton) are great running backs. I have 100 percent confidence in all of our backs this year.”
On what defenses should expect from Oklahoma State's offense
“I do not think it is really a surprise to defenses that we are scoring this many points because if you look at the numbers, we are putting up 200-yards per game on the ground and even in the air. Defenses should not be surprised about our offense.”
Junior Defensive End Nathan Peterson
On taking advantage of defensive coordinator Vance Bedford's challenge of beating Baylor by at least 18
“Coach Bedford challenged us this week if we were to win by at least 18, we would get to shave his head. It was not something we wanted to miss out on. Almost all of the players got together after the game and watched assistant strength and conditioning coach (Trumain) Carroll buzz Bedford's head.”
On scoring on defense
“Scoring on defense is something we all have been working on all season. Coach Bedford always says that we need the defense to score. Today, we had two scores on defense. When you have both the offense and defense scoring, it is going to help you win.”
On the play of the defense
“I think not counting last week, our defense has played better and better each week. Our confidence level is getting higher by each week and young guys in the backfield do not feel young anymore.”
Senior Defensive End Darnell Smith
On the interception return for a touchdown
“Intercepting a pass is something us linemen work on in practice each day. If the offensive tackles try to cut you, the quarterback is probably going to try and throw the ball our way. In practice, we work on avoiding cut blocks to stay on our feet and get our hands up. If you do that, hopefully you can bat the ball down. Fortunately, I intercepted the pass and took it to the house.”
On the play of Oklahoma State's defense
“One of the things the defense tries to do during games is fly around. The only thing we can control is our effort and that is what we wanted to show out on the field today. When you show a lot of effort and follow your assignments, you're going to make plays.”
