Cowboy Golf Moves Into Second Place At Isleworth Invitational
October 24, 2006 | Cowboy Golf
OSU, which entered the day tied for fourth place, was one of just two teams to break par during the second round, taking advantage of more ideal playing conditions than those endured during the first round. The Cowboys were joined in red figures by tournament leader Texas. The Longhorns carded a 285 score, giving them a 579 score and a one stroke advantage.
“I actually like it when it's a little tougher than this. I'd like to see some wind and cooler temperatures,” Cowboy head coach Mike McGraw said. “It doesn't mean we will play well, it just tells you a lot about your players. I love the cool weather.”
Senior Tyler Leon blistered the par-72 Isleworth Country Club with a 69 that included birdies on each of the course's four par 5s. The 3-under total moved the Dallas, Texas native back into contention, vaulting him from a tie for 29th into a tie for fourth place at 143. Leon will enter the final round three shots behind individual leader Toby Ragland, who stands at 4-under 140.
Fellow senior Ryan Posey also moved into the top 10, jumping from a tie for 19th into a tie for sixth place after a 1-under 71 gave him a 36-hole total of 144. The Dallas, Texas native played a bogey-free front nine that included one birdie to move up the leaderboard.
Redshirt freshman Trent Whitekiller followed up his 72 during Sunday's round with a 75 to dip into a tie for 22nd, while true freshman Chris Ward broke par for the first time during his young collegiate career with a 1-under 71 to move up 33 spots into a tie for 36th place at 149.
Sophomore Trent Leon will begin tomorrow's final round tied for 54th place at 152 after posting a 77 during his second round.
OSU will begin its final round tomorrow at 9:30 a.m. (EST) and will be paired with Texas and Florida.
