Cowboy Golf Finishes Fourth At Isleworth-UCF Collegiate Invitational
October 24, 2006 | Cowboy Golf
OSU entered the day alone in second place and just one shot behind Texas, but was not able to mount a charge during its third round as the Longhorns pulled away from the field, winning by 12 strokes. The Cowboys finished with a 54-hole total of 892 to come in two strokes behind Texas A&M for third place and four shots off the pace of runner-up Florida.
Georgia's Brian Harman claimed individual medalist honors, finishing with an even-par 216 total.
The fourth-place showing did give the Cowboys their third top-five finish in three events during the fall campaign despite playing without reigning national player of the year Pablo Martin and 2006 NCAA champion Jonathan Moore. The duo did not compete as they will represent Spain and the United States, respectively, at the World Amateur Team Championship later this week.
Individually, OSU's two seniors led the way as Tyler Leon and Ryan Posey both earned top-10 finishes. The tandem came in among the nine players tied for 10th place at 5-over 221 after Leon carded a 78 and Posey recorded a 77 on the day.
Sophomore Trent Leon moved up the leaderboard, posting a 76 that moved him from a tie for 54th place into a tie for 45th at 228.
True freshman Chris Ward wrapped up his second career start with an 81 to tie for 53rd place at 230, while redshirt freshman Trent Whitekiller tied for 66th in his collegiate debut after a final round 86 put him in the group at 17-over 233.
The Cowboys will close out their fall slate on Oct. 29 when they begin play at the Callaway Golf Collegiate Match Play Championship at Colonial Country Club in Dallas, Texas.
