Cowboy Baseball Releases 2007 Schedule
October 24, 2006 | Cowboy Baseball
“It's a challenging schedule where we play some tough teams at home and on the road,” said fourth-year OSU head coach Frank Anderson, whose ballclub finished 41-20 last season and was a No. 1 seed at the NCAA Tournament's Fayetteville Regional. “We're going to be really tested in the month of February with a bunch of road games, but that should help prepare us for conference play. Overall, it's a schedule that should help us out in the RPI.”
OSU will open the season on February 2 when it hosts Hofstra at Allie P. Reynolds Stadium, the first of 30 home games for the Cowboys in 2007. Non- conference highlights include meetings against five NCAA Tournament teams from a year ago. OSU will face Ball State at the Florida Atlantic Tournament in February and will travel to Texas to take on Texas-Arlington in March. Anderson's club also has showdowns with Pepperdine (March 9-11 in Stillwater), Oral Roberts (April 24 in Stillwater) and Wichita State (May 15 in Wichita).
In Big 12 Conference action, Anderson's club, which finished second in the regular season standings a year ago with an 18-9 league mark, will play host to Baylor, Kansas State, Texas and Missouri. The Bears, Longhorns and Tigers were all NCAA Tournament teams in 2006.
The Cowboys open Big 12 Conference play March 23 when they travel to Lawrence, Kan. to take on defending Big 12 Tournament champion Kansas at Hoglund Ballpark. OSU was 2-2 against coach Ritch Price's club in 2006.
Another highlight on the schedule is the annual Bedlam series against Oklahoma. Considered one of the top college baseball rivalries in the nation, the Cowboys and Sooners will open their series May 4 at Drillers Stadium in Tulsa, Okla. The series then shifts to Oklahoma City's SBC Bricktown Ballpark for the final two games.
The Big 12 Baseball Tournament will be held at the SBC Bricktown Ballpark May 23-27, while the NCAA Tournament gets underway on June 1.
