No. 10 Cowgirls Hold Off Oral Roberts, 1-0

The Cowgirls scored the lone goal of the game off the foot of freshman Kasey Langdon in the 65th minute. Langdon received a pass from Sasa Jackson and snuck the ball just inside the goal post for her third goal of the season; all three have been game winners.
“Give credit to ORU, they played very hard,” co-head coach Karen Hancock said. “I thought in the first half they were more aggressive than we were. They won most of the 50-50 balls, and they made it very difficult for us to get into a rhythm.
“ORU defended very well and absorbed our pressure quite a bit. They were able to spring on counter attacks and it was very effective. It was a difficult game for us, and I am very proud of our team in finding a way to get the win.”
The Cowgirls saw most of the action on their offensive end of the field. OSU out shot the Golden Eagles 10-2 and earned five corner kicks to just two for the Golden Eagles, in the first half. Oral Roberts made a couple of strong counter attacks with numbers on the OSU defense, but had nothing to show for it.
Jesyca Rosholt had a point blank shot that ORU keeper Mandy Evans knocked away. Niccole Grimaldi had a shot that Evans let go off the post. Oral Roberts best opportunity came with 10 minutes left in the opening half. The Golden Eagles had a scramble in front of the OSU goal, but were called offside to end the threat.
The Cowgirls had a golden opportunity in the in the 55th minute. Sasa Jackson took a shot from the top of the box and Evans made a leaping save and knocked it out of bounds. On the ensuing corner kick, Bridget Miller collected a loose ball and sent a shot across the goal, but an ORU defender standing on the goal line headed it away.
Ashlyn Brantley took a shot a few minutes later that appeared to go into the goal, but just missed and went out of bounds.

It was more than enough for the Cowgirl defense as Erin Stigler recorded her fifth shutout of the season, while OSU recorded its ninth shutout overall. The Cowgirls held ORU to just seven shots in the game, five of which came in the final 45 minutes.
