Bowman Named Big 12 Player of the Week
October 16, 2006 | Cowboy Football
The Big 12 Conference named the junior receiver as its offensive player of the week one day after the Walter Camp Football Foundation announced Bowman as winner of its national player of the week honor.
The junior receiver's accolades stem from a record-shattering day in Lawrence. Bowman had 300 receiving yards on 13 receptions against Kansas, including four touchdowns, in OSU's come-from-behind 42-32 win. The yardage total set an OSU and Big 12 record. It was the 11th best yardage total in NCAA history. His 13 catches were the second most by a Cowboy in a single game and set a new Big 12 record for receptions in a conference game. Bowman's touchdown receptions were 64, 55, 54 and 25 yards. His four touchdown catches tied a Big 12 record for a conference game.
Thanks to Saturday's numbers, Bowman now leads the nation with 123.8 receiving yards per game and he leads the country in total receiving yards (743). He has seven TD catches in the first six games of the season.
The North Carolina transfer is OSU's first offensive player of the week since Nov. 14, 2005, when running back Mike Hamilton won the award after rushing for 161 yards in OSU's win over Texas Tech.
Bowman is the third OSU player honored by the Big 12 this season. Kick returner Perrish Cox (vs. Missouri State), and punter Matt Fodge ( vs. Florida Atlantic) have both been named as the league's special teams player of the week in 2006.
Oklahoma State returns to action Saturday night when it hosts Texas A&M at Boone Pickens Stadium in a 6:05 p.m. Homecoming kickoff.
