Cowboy Golf Set To Compete At Ping/Golfweek Preview
October 01, 2006 | Cowboy Golf
The Cowboys finished third at last season's event and have won the Preview on three occasions, finishing first in 1989, 1998 and 2005.
OSU will get its first round underway Monday at 8:50 a.m. (EST) and will be paired with Georgia and UNLV.
The 54-hole event will cover three days with 18 holes being played each day on the par-70, 6,809-yard Golden Horseshoe Gold Course. The layout will serve as the site of the 2007 NCAA Championship, which will be played May 30-June 2.
OSU's lineup will include four of its five starters from last season's national championship team as junior Pablo Martin, sophomores Jonathan Moore and Trent Leon and senior Tyler Leon will all compete. The quartet will be joined by senior Ryan Posey.
Martin is coming off a third-place finish at last week's event at Olympia Fields Country Club and has won the Preview each of the past two seasons, while Moore tied for 50th last year in the first start of his collegiate career.
Tyler Leon has posted top-20 finishes in each of his three Preview appearances tying for 20th as a freshman before finishing seventh in 2004 and tying for 13th last season.
The start will mark the first appearance at the event for Posey.
Trent Leon will be making the first start of the season after seeing action in 11 events as a true freshman last year. He tied for 39th place a year ago.
