September 06, 2005 | Cowgirl Soccer
Oklahoma State's soccer team will leave by bus on Thursday morning at 7 a.m. for Lafayette, La. The OSU bus will carry supplies, goods and necessities to help with the relief effort. the team plans to fill as many donated items in the bus as they have room for. The Cowgirls will also donate their time on Saturday along with McNeese State, Louisiana-Lafayette and Wisconsin-Green Bay, during their off day to help in the relief effort. Part of the aid given by these four schools is to cut back on their hotel rooms to help provide the evacuees with a place to stay. The OSU athletic department and senior woman administrator Amy Weeks are coordinating their efforts with the Payne County Red Cross to bring what is needed the most. The Red Cross is saying the most important item right now is money.
“We did not feel comfortable going to Lafayette unless we did something to help in the relief efforts,” Weeks said. “We give credit to the Louisiana-Lafayette staff for helping us find a volunteer effort and for what they are doing every day for the hurricane victims.
“Throughout the week and the fall semester the OSU Student-athlete Advisory Council will continue to help in relief efforts through OSU sporting events and local charities.”
