Cowboy Golf to Begin Fall Season at Ping/Golfweek Preview
September 26, 2005 | Cowboy Golf
The 54-hole event will begin on Monday and run through Wednesday at the par-72, 7,671-yard Crosswater Golf Course.
OSU enters the season ranked second nationally, behind only defending NCAA champion Georgia. The Cowboys and Bulldogs are two of nine teams ranked in the preseason top 10 that are among the 15 teams in the tournament field. Third-ranked Florida is the lone top-10 school not participating in this year's event.
OSU won last year's event at Caves Valley Golf Club in Owings Mills, Md., posting a four-shot victory over Georgia Tech. The Cowboys also walked away with the individual medalist as then-freshman Pablo Martin posted a two-stroke victory in his first-ever collegiate event.
The Cowboy lineup for this year's event will consist of three players that played a significant role on last year's squad that won seven tournaments and held the top spot in the final 2004-05 Golfweek/Sagarin rankings.
A third-team All-American last year, senior Zack Robinson will be joined in the lineup by junior Tyler Leon, a second-team All-American last season, and Martin, who earned first-team All-America and national freshman of the year honors in 2004-05.
A pair of Cowboys will be making their collegiate debuts as redshirt freshman Jonathan Moore will make his collegiate debut as will true freshman Trent Leon.
The Ping/Golfweek Preview, which is held each fall at the site of the following spring's NCAA Championship, is in its 17th year of existence.
