Cowgirls Storm Past Golden Hurricane, Win Oklahoma Shootout
September 19, 2005 | Cowgirl Soccer
The last OSU player to record a hat trick was Adriane Radtke against Sam Houston State on Sept. 19, 2004. It was a good gift from Rosholt to head coach Karen Hancock who celebrated her birthday today.
Oklahoma State claimed the tournament title on goal differential with a +7 advantage compared to Oklahoma's +6.
OSU remained unbeaten on the season and improved to 7-0-2, while Tulsa dropped to 2-4-2 on the year. It is the fourth consecutive season that OSU has gone unbeaten in its non-conference schedule.
“It was a great game,” head coach Karen Hancock said. “To come out and score six goals, it is fantastic. More importantly, it is another win and it keeps us undefeated in the non-conference portion of the schedule.”
The two teams traded goals over the first five minutes of the game. Angelika Feldbacher got the scoring started off of a rebound on a Jamie Markaverich shot. Tulsa came right back and answered on a well placed shot from Jennifer Kacergis. Rosholt scored her first of three goals off of a cross from Sasa Jackson that TU keeper Meredith Hart deflected toward her.
The game remained at 2-1 for the remainder of the first half. The Cowgirls took 13 shots, but they could not beat Hart again who had five first half saves.
OSU came out roaring in the second half, however. Yolanda Odenyo scored just two minutes into the half on a cross that Hart knocked into her own goal. Rosholt scored her second goal in the 59th minute on a perfect cross from Odenyo.
OSU scored again just 43 seconds later when Rosholt fed Ashlyn Brantley at the top of the penalty area and she put it in the back of the net. Rosholt clinched the tournament in the 66th minute when she completed the hat trick off of an assist from Feldbacher.
Bettina Grossmann went the distance in goal and recorded two saves to earn defensive MVP honors. It was just Grossmann's second career game in goal. Rosholt earned offensive MVP with three goals and an assist in the tournament finale.
Oklahoma State will open conference play against 21st-ranked Texas at the Cowgirl Soccer Complex next Friday, Sept. 23 at 7 p.m.
