Cowgirls Sign Swedish Standout
September 14, 2005 | Cowgirl Cross Country & Track
Anderson joins sophomore Kim Blomkvist, as the two Swedish natives for the Cowgirls this season.
Earlier this year, Anderson set personal best times in the 1,500-meter (4:35) and 3,000-meter (9:57) runs. The Swedish standout then recorded stellar times in the cross country season. Anderson ran a time of 14:50 in the 4k and 17:42 in the 5k runs.
Competing in her second year of track and field, Anderson finished third behind Blomkvist, in the 1,500-meter and 5,000-meter runs at the Swedish Junior National Championships, earlier this month. Blomkvist was crowned national junior champion in the 5,000-meter run.
“Nina is young and inexperienced, but she has potential for a good future,” head coach Rene Sepulveda said.
With the addition of Anderson, Sepulveda believes that the Cowgirls can look for a successful future that includes fellow freshman Anissa Angelosante and Lora Chastain, redshirt freshman Brittany Hill and experienced sophomores Kim Blomkvist, Eva Tomankova, Maria Trejo and Mary Davies.
“With the young talent that we have, it gives us a bright future for the Cowgirl cross country team for the next three to four years.”
