Cowgirls Take Care of Cajuns, 5-0
September 12, 2005 | Cowgirl Soccer
OSU improved to 5-0-2 with the win, while UL dropped to 1-3-2 with the loss.
The Cowgirls scored four times in the first half to put the Cajuns in a bind early. Jesyca Rosholt started the OSU scoring brigade with an early goal. It was her team leading fourth goal of the season.
Jamie Markaverich tallied her first career goal at Oklahoma State. Ashlyn Brantley scored her second goal of the season, while Katie Lacey scored her first goal of the year just before halftime.
“We came out strong and with a lot more intensity than we did on Friday,” co-head coach Colin Carmichael said. “We did a much better job of finishing our opportunities in front of the net. Scoring four goals in the first half demoralizes the other team.”
Niccole Grimaldi added a goal in the second half to put the finishing touches on the Cowgirl victory. It was Grimaldi's third goal of the season.
The Cowgirls received another solid team defensive effort. Jeanne Rankin played all 90 minutes in goal to record her third shutout of the season, while the defense in front of her continues to limit its opponents' opportunities. OSU has now shutout five of its seven opponents, and it has only allowed two goals on the season.
Oklahoma State's soccer team performed community service on Saturday to help aid victims of Hurricane Katrina.
“I think it was a real eye opening experience for our girls,” Carmichael said. “They saw how people are suffering in our own country following this disaster.”
Oklahoma State will host the 2005 Oklahoma Shootout next weekend. The Cowgirls will play host to Oral Roberts on Friday night at 6 p.m. at the Cowgirl Soccer Complex. On Sunday, Oklahoma will play ORU at 4:30 p.m. with OSU and Tulsa set to follow the first game.
