Gundy encouraged by offensive production

“I think the running backs played well again today,” said coach Mike Gundy. “I think both quarterbacks played well, and the tight ends played better today.”
While Gundy said a possible reason for the improvement is that it's a game week, the first-year coach said it could also be the players getting more accustomed to the schemes.
“I think it's the offense jelling,” Gundy said. “The offense takes longer because the system is so complex, and it takes the players longer to adjust.
“I think over time, it will continue to get better.”
While he was encouraged by the offense, Gundy also noticed some positive things on the defensive side of the ball.
“I don't watch as much defense, but I see our defensive line moving around more, and our linebackers are all over the place.”
For the second consecutive day, the Cowboys practiced inside Boone Pickens Stadium on Tuesday, and Gundy said the weather was a lot like what he expects it to be when the team takes the field to play Montana State in the season opener on Saturday.
“I was sharing with those guys earlier that it's 93 degrees, 27 percent humidity and the field temperature's 100,” Gundy said. “It was good practice weather, and I think it's similar to what it's going to be like Saturday.”
Overall, Gundy was very happy with the practice after watching the team workout on the new turf for more than two hours.
“Today was our best practice as a team,” Gundy said. “I'm very encouraged. We seem healthy, and I think the guys are ready to play.”
