Cowboys go through short practice

“I noticed today watching the players that you always run into the wall where you're ready to play a game,” Gundy said. “I can tell the players are tired of hitting on each other and tired of going against each other, and they're ready to play against another team.”
But the first-year coach admitted the players aren't the only ones ready to play Montana State on Sept. 3.
“I feel the same way,” Gundy said. “We've got three or four more practices that we need to get some work out of them, and then we'll cut back and get ready to play a game.
“It's getting that time,” Gundy said. “We need to go play.”
The Cowboys had a short practice Thursday, spending less than two hours on the practice field going through many drills in preparation for the season.
“We had a shorter workout today in between scrimmages  obviously the scrimmage yesterday, and we're going to scrimmage 60 or 70 plays tomorrow,” Gundy said. “We worked on some fundamentals and a lot of Montana State.”
Following Friday's closed scrimmage, Gundy said he plans on having a dress rehearsal on Saturday, which will also be closed to the public.
“It gives us the opportunity to do what it says, it's a mock game where our players put the uniforms on and we go through the pregame stretch,” Gundy said. “There are so many things involved in game day activity that people don't realize, and then you take all the freshmen that we have that will have to play in the game.
“We have a 116-play mock game that we'll go through. They need to go through that, so the shock can get lessened when we play on Sept. 3.”
