Carmichael Promoted to Co-head Soccer Coach
August 24, 2005 | Cowgirl Soccer
The promotion has been approved by the Board of Regents, and the details of Carmichael's contract are still being worked out. The move was made to insure the stability of the Oklahoma State soccer program and to keep the momentum moving forward that has been building the last couple of years.
“We are very fortunate here at Oklahoma State to have a great coaching staff that has a lot of continuity,” Hancock said. “A large part of that is Colin and I have been together going on 10 years. Colin has had the opportunity to go elsewhere as a head coach at another Division I school, and we fought very hard to keep him at Oklahoma State. I think that our coaching staff is as good as any in the country.”
Carmichael helped Hancock start the OSU soccer program in 1996 after serving as an assistant for Hancock at South Alabama for two years.
Carmichael was promoted from assistant coach to associate head coach in 2003. In his two years serving as associate head coach the Cowgirls has their best two years in the brief history of the program. OSU compiled a record of 27-11-5 finishing seventh in the Big 12 both years, and he helped guide them to the Big 12 Tournament Championship and NCAA Tournament appearance in 2003.
Hancock and Carmichael have been with the program since it began in 1996 and have compiled an 83-80-13 record over that nine-year span.
