2005 Cowboy Football Practice Report #11
Monday, August 15
The Cowboys elected to move practice to Ponca City to give the grass practice fields more time to dry out from the rainy weekend.
The scrimmage was highlighted by big plays on both sides of the ball. Martel Van Zant made a diving interception of a Bobby Reid pass in the end zone. Quinton Moore picked off a pass and returned it 38 yards. Donovan Woods hooked up with Luke Frazier for a 44-yard completion.
“I thought the defense played well today,” head coach Mike Gundy said. “Obviously, the offense did not play very well. They turned the ball over, put the ball on the ground and failed to put the ball in the end zone during the goal line series, which concerned me more than anything. They have a lot of work left.”
Woods led the offense going 9-for-16 passing for 137 yards, including two touchdowns to his brother D'Juan. Mike Hamilton led the rushing attack with 33 yards on 11 carries, while Calvin Roberts toted the ball seven times for 32 yards.
Woods and Frazier were the top targets for the quarterbacks. Woods hauled in five catches for 71 yards, while Frazier caught three passes for 56 yards.
The Cowboys will return to Ponca City tomorrow for an afternoon practice slated to start at noon. All workouts are open to the public until August 17.
