I heard the news today about VG, I had the privledge to shake his hand at the OSU-OU game, as an OU fan i feel the lose for OSU, a bright young man wearing the black and orange very proudly, my heart goes out to the OSU family for this great loss, his family and the OSU football family is in my prayers! When a person that you have never met personally dies, and has the same emotional attachment as a family member passing, you know that you have seen someone special pass through your life. VG's high spirited performance on the field was the only view we had of this exceptional young man. We watched from our “Section B” seats as he rallied the crowd on Saturdays, and as he ran below the railing, young kids would rush to hopefully get a “High Five” from him after the games. He was a role model, a hero, and most of all, a leader. Shedding tears over his death is easy, as this man's love of life for his school, his team, and his fans could only be out done by his love for his family and personal friends. To have been privileged for him to pass through our lives has touched our hearts more that we could have imagined. We miss you, VG, and we wish you were still with us. God has called you home for His reasons, and I suspect that there was a need for your strength to do His work there with Him. God Bless your family during this time of sadness, and our prayer is that we are all comforted in knowing you are in a better place, and that we will all get to meet you face to face some day. One of the highlights of an OSU game is watching #20 jump up and down to get the fans going! How Vernon loved to see the fans involved and how he truly showed grace and pride being an OSU Cowboy!! WOW what a loss! Vernon will be greatly missed. I remember the last home fooball game this year, we sit in the family fun zone,and after the game several players go to the student section and give high fives to the students, Vernon was the only player to come to the endzone to give the kids high fives. He gave my son a high five and took his wrist sweat band off and gave it to my son! My son has kept the sweat band in his OSU chest. What a classy guy! I am not an Oklahoma State fan like all of you, I am a Colorado Buffaloes fan, but I still feel for the loss. Seeing pictures of this guy and the way he played you could tell he was a great human being and destined for great things. Good news to know is that he has now joined his mother up in Heaven and I'm sure he is happy with that. God is with us where ever we go and we all know that Vernon is with Him now. He was such an amazing person. We would have fun hanging out with the guys and talking about how Texas is better. Grant always had so much respect for everyone. Of course there are a lot of memories from school. He was truly an amazing person. I know for sure that I will never forget him - they say everyone you come across teaches you something different. Vernon definately taught me a lot about life and happiness. Oklahoma State has lost a fine young student, a terrific football player and most of all, a wonderful and talented human being. Our section at the games will certainly miss chanting "Grant, Grant, Grant" when he made a great play, which was often! God only takes the best and he's got the best now in VG. Vernon will definitely be missed, he was one of the main reasons I loved football so much. My 9 year old cousin came to my last football game as a Cowboy student, his name is Grant and of course his favorite player is V.G. Well I told him that if we wait till the end of the game VG would come by(we were on the front row of the student section) and sure enough VG came by, stopped and gave my cousin a high five and said "What's up man?" My cousin talked about that for weeks. VG was awesome and all he had to do was be himself! I hope OSU students will continue his O.S.U., even though he isnt here to lead us! I have known VG since he was a sophmore playing on varisity with me at Duncanville and he also lived in my neighborhood(hollywood park). We always use to crack jokes about each other, during practice and even game time. The thing that makes Vernon a great person is that, he knew he was a good athlete, but he was always humble and never talked down on anyone with less talent. Mannnnn, Vernon you were like the first person I met when I got up to Stillwater. You were like a little brother. I remember us sittin in class just talking about track and football everyday. I would always tell my younger brother that you reminded me of him. I will miss all the funny track and field bus trips we took, watching you crush people on the field, and your wonderful smile. You always seemed happy and everytime I saw you, we would both always smile, laugh, and wave at each other. I am really going to miss you man, but one day I will be up there with you. Vernon, you'll be missed, i know myself and everyone with me in Duncanville loved you man. I've known him since 9th grade, played basketball with him, hung out all the time. If there was ever a really bad day V.G. would cheer you up like everyone knows he has the natural ability to do. We had so many classes together at Duncanville High, and you made them fun. Football fans will really miss the enthusiasm he displayed. I remember how he would run out onto the field dancing, doing a great job of getting not only his teammates, but all of us fans fired up. I met Vernon 'VG' my freshman year in high school, and it amazed me that he was never too 'cool' to talk to anyone. He made a big impact on my life, and made high school a little easier.
