Kansas Defeats Oklahoma State 7-5

Kansas improved to 36-25 overall and 11-14 in Big 12 play, while Oklahoma State fell to 32-23 and 11-15 in league action. Both teams have qualified for the Big 12 tournament, with the Jayhawks moving past OSU into sixth place in the conference standings.
KU starter Mike Zagurski (8-4) scattered 10 hits over seven innings and allowed four runs with six strikeouts and three walks. OSU starter Blake Kronkosky (2-3) gave up five runs on seven hits in two innings with three walks and a strikeout in the losing effort.
The Jayhawks scored three runs in the first on a pair of two-out hits as catcher Sean Richardson had a two-run double and first baseman Jared Schweitzer had a RBI single.
OSU cut the deficit to 3-2 in the third when Corey Brown hit a one-out triple and scored on a sacrifice fly by Adam Carr, while Cody Merrell plated a run with a single up the middle. He was ejected from the game later in the inning when he attempted to score on a Steve Ptak single and collided with the catcher at home.
OSU scored a run in the fifth on a balk by Mike Zagurski, but the Jayhawks came right back in the sixth with two runs via bases loaded walks to Schweitzer and pinch hitter Jake Kauzlarich.
RBI singles by Justin Colbert and Rusty Ryal in the eighth cut the KU lead to 7-5 and loaded the bases with two outs before Adam Carr grounded out to short to end the rally.
Several Cowboys had two hits on the night, while A.J. Van Slyke led the Jayhawks with three hits and two runs scored/
The teams will close out the series tomorrow at 1 p.m.
