Cowboy Golf Cruises To Big 12 Title
May 02, 2005 | Cowboy Golf
The Cowboys' 4-over 868 total was nine shots better than runner-up Oklahoma and 17 strokes ahead of third-place Missouri. The championship was OSU's league-leading fourth Big 12 title and is the 49th conference crown in the 59-year history of the program.
A trio of Cowboys turned in top-10 performances during the weekend, the most by an OSU squad in the tournament since having four players achieve the feat in 1998.
Senior Alex Norén followed up his third-place finish in 2004 as this year's runner-up after posting his second consecutive 72 on Sunday. Norén's 2-under 214 total was six shots behind tournament champion Anthony Kim of Oklahoma, who carded a final-round 68 for a 208 total.
Junior Zack Robinson continued his impressive play this spring, vaulting himself into third place after firing the squad's low round of the day with a 4-under 68 to finish at 215. The Ft. Worth, Texas, native began the day tied for 10th before making his move and earning his sixth consecutive top 10 of the year.
Sophomore Tyler Leon posted his first career top-10 finish at the conference tournament, tying two other players for eighth place at 4-over 220 after a final round of 77.
Freshman Pablo Martin bettered par for the first time in the tournament with a closing round of 71 to move up one spot from a tie for 12th into a three-player deadlock for 11th at 221, while sophomore Ryan Posey closed out the event with back-to-back 76s to tie for 25th place at 229.
OSU will return to action on May 14 when it travels to Ardmore, Okla., to take part in The Maxwell at Dornick Hills Country Club.
