Cowgirl Softball Falls To Baylor, 6-2
April 03, 2005 | Cowgirl Softball
After an absence of offense through much of the first game of the series, both teams connected on hits in the first inning and the Bears broke onto the scoreboard in the second.
Baylor had the bases loaded following a pair of singles and an error when Schwethelm knocked a triple to right field to clear the bases and give the home team a 3-0 lead.
The Cowgirls chipped away at the lead in the fourth, scoring one run on a single from Shianne Cruce. OSU loaded the bases following hits from Courtney Totte, Tara Jeffery and Dominique Van Nortwick. Cruce then connected on the fourth hit of the frame, lacing one through the right side to cut Baylor's lead to 3-1.
Baylor added to its lead in the fifth, scoring three off four hits including a pair of RBI doubles.
The Cowgirls scored their final run of the game in the sixth when Van Nortwick drove Carey in with a single up the middle. Tara Jeffery gave OSU some momentum, starting the inning with a triple but was thrown out at home on a fielder's choice that saw Carey reach safely.
Jessica Hoppock took the loss, allowing three runs off four hits and two walks in 1.1 innings. Cook held the Bears scoreless for the next 2.2 innings, scattering three hits and walking one.
Taleesha Conder made her first appearance of the season in the circle in the fifth inning. The freshman struck out the first batter she faced and went on to fan three of seven batters. The Bears touched Conder for one run off two hits in 1.2 innings of work.
