Both starting pitchers went the distance in the contest, with UT's Kyle McCulloch (7-2) picking up the close victory. He allowed three runs, two earned, on seven hits with seven strikeouts and just one walk in his second complete game effort of the year.
(8-3) was charged with the loss after allowing four runs, two earned, on six hits in nine innings with six strikeouts and three walks.
The advantage was short-lived as the Longhorns took advantage of a fielding and throwing error by to score two unearned runs to tie the game.
Shortstop then hit a solo homer to right to give the Cowboys the lead in the bottom of the second.
The Longhorns rallied again in the third when shortstop Seth Johnston hit a solo homer into a stiff wind to left field to tie the game at 3-3. Taylor Teagarden then walked and moved to second on a balk by Cowley. A base hit by Carson Kainer advanced him to third and he then scored on a sacrifice fly RBI by Will Crouch.
Seth Johnston led UT with two hits, while and each had two hits to lead the Cowboys.
