Cowgirls Set to Compete at Two Meets

Oklahoma State's women's track and field team will travel to Walnut, Calif., to compete in the Mt. SAC Relays on Thursday. The meet will feature some of the top athletes in the United States, along with some of the top International athletes as well.
Freshman Tihana Sarac will start things off for the Cowgirls, as she will be competing in the Heptathlon Thursday. Sarac this season, set the school record in the heptathlon with 4,684 points.
Senior Delisa McClain will compete in the hammer throw, as she ranks seventh nationally in the event. Senior Halee Prickett will also throw for the Cowgirls, as she will be competing in the shot put.
In the 5k run, seniors Valentina Medina, Joanna Fedick and Michelle Prowse will lead a young and talented group of runners that include, junior Barbora Kuncova, and freshmen Mary Davies and Kim Blomkvist into the event.
The Cowgirls will then look to get a strong performance from freshman Eva Tomankova, as she will be competing in her first 3,000-meter steeplechase of the season.
“This meet will feature great competition for everyone,” head coach Rene Sepulveda said. “There will be some of the best throwers and runners in U.S. competing in the events.”
Mt. San Antonio College will host the events, starting Thursday, April 14-17.
Meanwhile, the Cowgirls will travel others to Wichita, Kan., to compete in the 56th K.T. Woodman Track Classic on Saturday, at Cessna Stadium.
The Cowgirls will compete freshman Deleanor Kirkpatrick in the shot put, along with two other freshmen Brandi Broaddus and LaKendra Greathouse. Kirkpatrick will also throw the hammer, while Greathouse will throw the discuss.
In the javelin, senior April Hart and freshman Laura Schmidt will be competing in the event.
Cowgirl seniors Paula Ogunbanjo, Melissa N'Dubilo and Cody Birk will all look to contribute to the team in the long jump. Ogunbanjo (No. 8 in the Big 12) will then compete in the triple jump.
In the 5k run, the Cowgirls will look to get strong performances from senior Catherine Clifford and sophomore Maria Trejo. Sophomore Lauren McKee will then run the 100-meter dash.
Wichita State University will host the events.
