Oklahoma State continues its tough eight-game homestand this weekend as Big 12 leader Missouri comes to town. The teams will open play on Friday night at 7 p.m. and will continue the set on Saturday at 2 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m.
About Missouri:
Missouri is 27-6 on the year and 8-1 in conference play after sweeping Texas A&M at home over the weekend. The Tigers defeated Southeast Missouri State 10-2 on Wednesday and ride a four-game winning streak entering this weekends action.
Pitching has been the strength of this years Missouri squad as it has a 2.29 ERA that is third in the NCAA and first in the Big 12. The staff has an even better ERA in conference action at 1.78 through nine games. Sophomore righthander Max Scherzer (6-1, 1.03 ERA) is the staff ace and will get the nod on Friday night. Sophomore lefthander Nathan Culp (6-0, 2.38 ERA) is slated to go on Saturday, while junior righthander Doug Mathis (3-2, 1.90 ERA) will start on Sunday.
Sophomore outfielder Hunter Mense leads the squad with a .394 batting average while junior outfielder James Boone, a Clinton, Okla., native, leads the team and is second in the Big 12 in RBIs with 57. The Tigers are batting .303 as a team with 20 triples and 343 runs scored in 33 games (10.4 runs per game).
Series Notes: Missouri swept the regular season series in Columbia, but OSU captured the final meeting a week later in the Big 12 championship game by a 10-9 score ... The Cowboys hold a 14-6 series advantage since Big 12 play began in 1997 ... the two teams did not meet in the 1999 and 2000 seasons due to snow ... OSU claimed a 2-1 series victory the last meeting in Stillwater in 2003.
Oklahoma State Listed In Several NCAA Statistical Rankings
The NCAA listed its first NCAA statistical rankings on Tuesday and Oklahoma State had some of the top numbers in the country. Heading into the Wichita State game, OSU led the nation in home runs (62) and was fourth in home runs per game (1.68) and slugging percentage (.567). The Cowboys were also in the top 10 in triples per game (7th- 0.54) and scoring (8th- 9.2 runs per game).
Some of Pokes were among the nations leaders in individual categories led by Adam Carr who was third in the nation in RBIs per game (1.68) and fifth in homers per game (0.41). Staff ace Thomas Cowley was fifth in the nation with seven wins on the year, one behind the national leaders.
Wichita State Recap
Wichita State scored the game winning run on a wild pitch by Adam Daniels in the ninth inning to defeat Oklahoma State 2-1 in baseball action Tuesday night at Reynolds Stadium.
Shortstop Nick McCoola led off the ninth with a walk and advanced to second on Derek Schermerhorns base hit to left. He then moved to third on Danny Jacksons fly ball to right before Daniels uncorked a wild pitch that bounced past catcher Matt Clarkson.
The Shockers scored their first run in the second inning on a passed ball that allowed Brandon Hall to score from third base.
The Cowboys took advantage of a fielding error by rightfielder Quin Vinse in the sixth that allowed Jeff Parrish to reach second base and tied the game on Ty Wrights RBI single to centerfield.
Adam Daniels (6-3) took the loss in his first complete game of the year. He allowed two runs, one earned, on seven hits with four strikeouts and three walks.
Ty Wright and Justin Colbert led OSU with two hits each.
Texas Tech Recap
Two huge innings by Texas Tech prevented Oklahoma State from sweeping the road series and instead the Cowboys dropped two of three, including a 10-9 heartbreaker Sunday afternoon.
The Pokes used another solid start by ace Thomas Cowley on Friday to defeat the Red Raiders 6-4. Cowley allowed two runs, one earned, on three hits in 7.1 innings of work to move to 7-2 on the year.
OSU could not overcome a seven-run first inning by Texas Tech in game two of the series on Saturday and lost 12-8. Starter Rick Rivas gave up the seven runs on seven consecutive hits before leaving the game in the first. The Cowboys rallied to cut the lead to 8-7 in the third, but Tech added single runs in the fourth and sixth innings and put the contest away with a two-run eighth.
It appeared the Cowboys were on their way to taking the series on Sunday after breaking a 3-3 tie with a six-run eighth inning. The Red Raiders did them one better though, scoring seven runs in the bottom of the inning to take the game and the series. Starter Scott Richmond pitched seven strong innings before tiring in the eighth. He allowed five runs on seven hits in 7.1 innings of work with six strikeouts and three walks and left the game with a 9-4 lead.
Several Cowboy hitters had a good weekend at the plate led by Justin Colbert who had six hits in 11 at bats (.545). Corey Brown and Jeff Parrish each hit two homers as the Pokes batted .315 as a team with six homers, eight doubles and 23 runs scored in the three games.
Carr Leads Nation In Home Runs And RBIs
Adam Carrs five homer day against Arkansas-Pine Bluff last Tuesday catapulted him into the national lead in homers entering this weekends contest. Carrs 15 homers and 62 RBIs lead the nation. The Felton, Calif., products homer total is the most by a Cowboy since Paul Powell hit 15 in 2002. Carr is currently hitting .359 and also leads the conference in total bases (118) and is second in hits (56), slugging percentage (.756) and third in triples (4).

Justin Colbert leads the team with 17 multi-hit contests, while Adam Carr leads in multi-RBI games with 13 ... After the eight game homestand is complete, the Pokes will only have one of its last 11 contests at Reynolds Stadium (vs. Oral Roberts May 10) ... The Home Run Club is hosting a cookout for all club members and Cowboy Baseball letterwinners at 11 a.m. on Sunday.
Browns Big Bat
Freshman Corey Brown is making a push for the Big 12s Freshman of the Year award as he continues to produce at the plate. The Tampa, Fla., product went 5-for-13 against Texas Tech with two homers, three RBI and four runs scored. He moved from the sixth spot in the batting order into the three-hole on Sunday and responded with a 2-for-4 day at the plate. He is now hitting .350 on the year with eight homers and 31 RBI, with his batting average and homer total best among freshman in the conference. Brown leads the Cowboys with a .351 average in conference games to go along with two homers and nine RBI. He has become more comfortable at the plate as the season has progressed and should continue to improve as the season winds down.
Colbert Has Solid Week
Junior second baseman Justin Colbert continued his solid week at the plate with a 2-for-4 day against Wichita State Tuesday night. He had a good weekend against Texas Tech, leading the team with a .545 average in the three game set. He went 6-for-11 with a double and three runs scored and boosted his batting average 13 points to .329 on the year. He is among the league leaders in walks (30) and runs scored (43) entering the weekend.
On Deck
The Cowboys start the second half of its eight game homestand against Dallas Baptist at 6 p.m. Tuesday night. The Patriots defeated OSU 10-2 on Feb. 15 and are 21-16 heading into a weekend set against Texas-Pan American. DBU will play Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Monday before heading to Stillwater for Tuesdays game.
Oklahoma State will then play its final Big 12 home series next weekend as No. 1 Texas comes to town. The Longhorns are 29-6 on the year and host Oklahoma this weekend and play Rice next Wednesday before coming to Stillwater. Of Note: The series game times are 7 p.m. on Friday, 2 p.m. on Saturday and Noon on Sunday. The finale was moved up an hour and will be televised nationally on ESPN2.

Every Oklahoma State game will be broadcast this season on the KSPI network of stations. Rex Holt, will once again call all of the action for the Cowboys. Former Cowboy coaching great Gary Ward will join Rex in the booth from time to time this season. The 2004 Cowboy Baseball Hall of Fame inductee is spearheading the schools effort in raising money for the renovation of Reynolds Stadium.

Fans can listen to coach Frank Anderson on his weekly radio show every Monday from 5:30-6:30 p.m. on 93.7 KSPI FM. The show started on Feb. 14 and is co-hosted by Rex Holt at the new Rib Crib restaurant on Perkins Road.
Coach Andersons weekly television show began on April 2 and will be shown on Saturdays at 7:30 a.m. on Fox 23 in Tulsa and at 4 p.m. on Fox 25 in Oklahoma City. The show, co-hosted by Tom Dirato and Fox 23 sports director Ron Terrell, features highlights, analysis and feature stories with the Cowboy baseball team.
