Cowboys Continue Spring Drills
March 31, 2005 | Cowboy Football
The first team offense and the first team defense went up against each other in short yardage situations. Both sides were able to make plays. The offense got strong runs from the running backs to pick up first downs, but the defense was able to make their share of stops.
“We have guys who are willing to get downhill and get two or three yards,” head coach Mike Gundy said. “We have had a lot of success doing that the last four years. Even though we have changed our style of offense, it is important to me that we are physical in short yardage situations.
Donovan Woods and Robert Reid both executed the two-minute offense well. Woods hit D'Juan Woods for a long pass play down the middle that led to a touchdown. Reid moved the ball down the field, but his drive was thwarted by penalties.
The Cowboys will continue with spring drills tomorrow afternoon at 4:10 p.m. at Boone Pickens Stadium before conducting a scrimmage Saturday morning at 11:45 a.m. Coach Gundy hopes to be to the point by Saturday where they can run plays without coaches being on the field.
