Thomas Cowley Leads Cowboys Past Baylor

The Cowboys improved to 18-7 overall and 3-1 in Big 12 action, while Baylor fell to 15-9 and 3-1 in league play.
Cowley (6-1) went eight innings and allowed one run on eight hits while striking out eight and walking two. Reliever came in with a runner on in the ninth and retired the side in order to close out the contest.
OSU scored in its first opportunity without the benefit of a hit. Baylor starter Trey Taylor walked three and hit a batter to allow a run, but got out of the inning without further damage.
Baylor tied the score in the top of the second on an RBI single by Chase Gerdes.
The Cowboys broke the tie in the third inning with two runs. had the big hit with an RBI single. OSU added two more runs in the fifth on a sacrifice fly by and a RBI single by to make it 5-1.
The Pokes closed out the scoring in the eighth when scored on a balk and then drove home the final run on a single up the middle.
Baylor starter Trey Taylor (2-3) was charged with the loss after giving up five runs on seven hits in 4.1 innings of work. He walked a career high five batters and allowed more than four runs for the first time in 17 starts.
Every Cowboy had a hit in the game and five had two-hits on the night. The Bears were led by Kevin Russo and Paul Witt who had two hits each.
