Cowgirls to Host Hammer Competition Friday
March 24, 2005 | Cowgirl Cross Country & Track
All of the running and other field events will be held at the Donna J. Hardesty Sports and Recreation Complex in Tulsa.
“This will be the first time we have hosted something official,” head coach Rene Sepulveda said. “Tulsa does not have a legal hammer area, so this works out well for us, to finally have something at home.”
The competition will feature the Cowgirls Big 12 Indoor Track and Field Champion senior Delisa McClain and outstanding freshman Delanor Kirkpatrick.
“We are looking forward to it because we do not have a home meet at all,” throwing coach Teri Steer said. “To finally get to throw in your own place is the best thing ever because you are used to that ring.”
At Tulsa, Cowgirl seniors JoAnn Fedick and Cat Clifford will compete in the 5,000-meter run, along with freshman Kim Blomkvist. Freshman Eva Tomankova will run in the 1,500-meter dash.
Other schools that are competing in the Tulsa Duels are Missouri, Kansas, Tulsa, ORU and Southwest Missouri State.
The Cowgirls will also compete in the Stanford Invitational at the Cobb Track and Angell Field on Friday and Saturday, March 25-26, in Palo Alto, Calif.
Freshman Mary Davies and junior Barbora Kuncova will compete in the 10,000-meter run. Junior Michelle Prowse will run the 3,000-meter steeplechase.
Traveling to the California Multi Event Meet, at Cal-Berkley will be freshman, Tihana Sarac. Sarac will compete in the Heptathalon on Wednesday and Thursday.
