Oklahoma State Represented on 75th Anniversary Team

Oklahoma State had three former wrestlers named to the 75th Anniversary team when it was
unveiled inside Union Station in St. Louis.
Yojiro Uetake, John Smith and Pat Smith were all part of the festivities
that were put on by the NCAA, National Wrestling Coaches Association and the
St. Louis Sports Commission.
Uetake competed for three years for the Cowboys winning the NCAA
championship all three years from 1964-66. Uetake went undefeated for his
career and holds the school record for career winning percentage with a 58-0
record. He then went on to win two Olympic gold medals for his home country
of Japan.
John Smith, the current head coach at Oklahoma State, was a three-time NCAA
finalist. He finished as a runner-up 1985 before winning consecutive titles
in '87 and Â88. Smith holds school records with 47 wins in Â88, 154 career
victories, 26 falls in Â88 and 60 career falls. He went on to win six
consecutive world championships, including two Olympic gold medals.
Pat Smith, the younger brother of John and an assistant coach at OSU, was
the first wrestler in NCAA history to win four NCAA titles. Smith went
121-5-2 for his career at OSU, including 98 consecutive victories. Smith
helped OSU win the team title in 1994 when he won his fourth and final
title.
