Cowboys Roll Past Oregon State and Oregon
February 06, 2005 | Cowboy Wrestling
The Cowboys recorded two falls and a tech. fall en route to pasting Oregon State (9-8-1), 40-4, in the first dual. OSU picked up five falls, and out did themselves against Oregon (5-9) by winning 46-4.
Oklahoma State got solid performances up and down the lineup. The only loss in both duals came at 165 where Brett Munson lost to Oregon State's Matt Ellis, transfer from Oklahoma State, and Sam Lewnes lost to Oregon's Joey Bracamonte.
Jake Rosholt had a wild match against Oregon's fifth-ranked Scott Barker. The two wrestlers traded reversals in the first period, but Rosholt eventually ended the period with an 8-4 lead. Rosholt controlled the second period scoring eight more points to put him in range of ending the match with a tech. fall. Rosholt did just that in the third period by putting Barker on his back and pinning him with 1:00 left in the match. Rosholt had a tech. fall in his first match against Oregon State's travis Gardner.
Chris Pendleton recorded a fall and a tech. fall, while Steve Mocco had first period pins. Pendleton racked up points easily against the beavers' Chet McBee, winning 29-14, and he pinned the Ducks' Jeremy Larson in 2:16. Mocco ended his match with OSU's Jamie Rakevich in 54 seconds, while it took him 1:21 to pin UO's Chris Dearmon.
Coleman Scott and Clay Kehrer had a solid day each picking up two wins. Scott had a major decision over Oregon State's Eric Stevenson before he recorded another major over Oregon's Joey Lucas. Kehrer rode Oregon State's Dan Pitsch to a 2-0 victory, and got a back count in the third period to earn a major over Oregon's Tony Rolen.
Also getting falls for the Cowboys were Daniel Frishkorn, Zack Esposito and B.J. Jackson. It took Frishkorn just 46 seconds to pin Oregon's Elliot Tracy. Esposito pinned Nate Gipson in 2:26. Jackson bumped up from 149 and wrestled in his first dual of the year, and he made it an exciting one pinning Stewart Bogart with one second left on the clock in the first period.
OSU will return to the mat on Thursday night when they travel to Lincoln, Neb., to face the Cornhuskers at 7 p.m. at the Devaney Center. The dual will be broadcast on 93.7 FM, and it will be televised by CSTV.
