Cowboys Ride the Tigers to a 31-9 Victory

The Cowboys started with six points on the board because Missouri forfeited at 125. OSU took control after that winning the next three matches to take an 8-0 lead.
Nathan Morgan got it started with an 8-2 decision over Tyler McCormick. The Cowboys got bonus point victories in the next two matches. Daniel Frishkorn recorded three three-point near falls en route to a 16-1 tech. fall over No. 18 Chris McCormick, and Zack Esposito had a strong performance over Cody Greene to record a major decision.
The Tigers won the next two matches to cut the dual to 18-6, but the Cowboys still had their three best wrestlers yet to wrestle.
Chris Pendleton wrestled second-ranked Ben Askren for the first time this season. The two met in the All-Star matches back in November, but it did not effect official records. Pendleton got the only takedown of the match just forty seconds into it. Pendleton added an escape point in the second period to make it 3-1. Askren made the mistake of choosing down in the third period, and Pendleton accumulated riding time over three minutes. Askren managed to record a reversal with seven seconds left, but the riding time advantage proved to be the difference. It was the first loss of the year for Askren (26-1), while Pendleton (23-1) recorded his fifth victory over Askren in their six official meetings.
Missouri added a win at 184, while the Cowboys got a major decision from Jake Rosholt and Steve Mocco added his 15th fall of the season.
The Cowboys return to the mat tomorrow evening when they face Oregon State and Oregon in a double dual at Gallagher-Iba Arena beginning with Oregon State at 5 p.m. The dual can be heard live on 98.1 FM or online at www.okstate.com.
