Kuncova Leads Cowgirls at Tyson Invitational

Kuncova, a junior from Doubravice, Czech Republic, won the event with a time of 16:24.01. Kuncova pulled away from the pack with 10 meters left in the race to win.
Senior Catherine Clifford set a personal record in the 5k with a time of 17:49.94.
In the 3k, Cowgirl freshman Kim Blomkvist had a fifth-place finish with a personal best time of 9:52. Freshman Maria Trejo finished 12th in the event.
Senior Valentina Medina competed in her first individual competition of the season and won her heat in the mile-run with a time of 4:57.89. Cowgirl freshman, Eva Tomankova, also ran in the mile and set a personal record with a time of 4:59.91.
Senior Delisa McClain faced her toughest competition this season, finishing seventh in the weight throw. McClain threw a distance of 19.67 meters. That event was one of the most competitive events at the meet. It featured eight of ten girls that were ranked in the top ten nationally.
Oklahoma State also got a strong performance in the triple jump from senior Paula Ogunbanjo, as she had a ninth-place finish and improved her best mark of the season to 40-07 (12.39 meters).
Freshman Mary Davies was the lone Cowgirl to compete a the Husky Classic in Seattle, Wash.
Davies, a freshman from Whangaei, New Zealand, finished eighth and was one of 11 girls to get an NCAA provisional qualifying mark. Davies time of 16:23.76 improves her previous NCAA provisional mark.
The Cowgirls will be in action Saturday, Feb. 19 at the Oklahoma Late Meet in Norman, Okla.
