Cowgirls to Compete at Tyson Invitational
February 10, 2005 | Cowgirl Cross Country & Track
Friday's events will feature some of the top professional and college athletes in the nation, including Oklahoma State's Barbora Kuncova. Kuncova, a junior from Doubravice, Czech Republic, will compete in the mile-run.
On Saturday, it will be strictly collegiate athletes competing in the events. Kuncova will also compete Saturday in the 5,000-meter run, and will be looking to get an NCAA provisional mark.
The Cowgirls will see their toughest competition when senior Delisa McClain will throw against four other girls that are ranked in the top ten, including the No. 1 ranked weight thrower in the country, Florida's Candice Scott. Scott holds the college record in the weight throw with a throw of 23.52-meters.
“It will be her first major competition this season against throwers that have better marks,” head coach Rene Sepulveda said. “This will be a good meet for her to compete in so that she will know what to be ready for at the NCAA Championships.”
In the 400-meter run, junior Alison Erzinger will run against some of the best runners in the nation.
“This is one of the top meets in the country for the 400-meters, with great competition,” Sepulveda said.
Senior Valentina Medina, who has competed with the Cowgirl DMR team, will compete in her first individual race of the indoor season in the mile-run.
The Cowgirls will also have junior Michelle Prowse compete in the 3,000-meter run, and will have senior Paula Ogunbanjo compete in the triple jump.
Freshman Mary Davies will head to Seattle, Wash., to compete in the Husky Invitational in the 5,000-meter run.
The meet will be hosted by the University of Arkansas.
