Former Cowboy Standouts Regain Status on PGA Tour

Cox, who last played the PGA Tour in 2004, regained his Tour Card with a 10th-place finish on the Nationwide Tour Money List. The Dallas, Texas resident played in 27 events this past season, earning $257,352 to secure his place among the 21 players who achieved the promotion.
Cox capped the year with a victory in October at the Permian Basin Charity Golf Classic in Midland, Texas. The win earned the former Cowboy All-American $85,500, vaulting him from No. 25 to No. 7 on the money list and assuring him of his PGA status for the upcoming season.
While at OSU, Cox was named a first-team All-American in 1994 and a third-team selection in 1996. He was also a two-time Academic All-American and captured the Big Eight title in 1996 as well.
In 2005, Mahan earned $589,567 on the PGA Tour to finish 131st on the money list and send the Plano, Texas resident to the final stage of the PGA Tour Qualifying Tournament. On the year, Mahan competed in 34 events, earning two top-10 finishes.
The consensus national collegiate player of the year in 2003, Mahan finished the five-round qualifying tournament with a 15-under-par total of 417 to tie for ninth, putting him among the 32 players that earned full playing privileges for next season.
During his two seasons in Stillwater, Mahan was named a first-team All-American and the Big 12 Player of the Year. In 2002, he finished as the runner-up at the U.S. Amateur Championship.
All told, 13 former Cowboys will play the PGA Tour next season.
