December 17, 2005 | Cowgirl Cross Country & Track
Blumbaha is a five-time Latvian National Junior Champion in the multi-events. Blumbaha has personal best marks of 4,869 points in the outdoor heptathlon and 3,425 points in the indoor pentathlon.
Blumbaha finished second in the heptathlon at the 2004 Latvian National Championships.
She will be the second multi-event athlete in the history of the school's program, behind current sophomore Tihana Sarac. Sepulveda says he plans to redshirt Sarac this season so she can focus on improving her skills in a few of the events, while Blumbaha will use this season to gain experience.
“Baiba and Tihana will be good training partners,” Sepulveda said. We are going to redshirt Tihana this spring so she can learn to high jump and hurdle.
“Baiba will then be the lone OSU competitor in the pentathlon and heptathlon this season.”
Blumbaha will be eligible in January and will be instructed by assistant coach John Baumann.
