Cowgirl track and field adds Croatian standout

STILLWATER, Okla. Â– Oklahoma State's women's track and field team has signed Mateja Posavec to a national letter of intent, head coach Rene Sepulveda announced Friday.

Posavec, a native of Cakovec, Croatia, was the 2005 Croatian National Champion in the triple jump, while at Gymnasium Cakovec High School. Posavec has a personal best mark of 12.42-meters (40'9”).

Posavec is one of three jumpers that OSU signed for this season. Posavec is joined by Zivile Siksnelyte and Moria Steyn in the class.

“Mateja will help replace Paula Ogunbanjo (2005 NCAA Outdoor Qualifier in the triple jump), who graduated last spring,” Sepulveda said. “With the help of Mateja, our vertical jumping group should continue to improve and compete well at the Big 12 Championships this year.”

Posavec, who will be eligible to compete starting in January, also joins other Croatian native sophomore Tihana Sarac.
