Cowboys release 2006 baseball schedule
December 13, 2005 | Cowboy Baseball
“It's a good schedule where we play some tough teams at home and on the road,” said head coach Frank Anderson, whose Cowboys are coming off a 34-25 campaign in 2005. “We've got a lot of home games, which is something we need with this young crew. It's a challenging schedule that should help us out in the RPI.”
The Cowboys will play 34 home games at Allie P. Reynolds Stadium. Non-conference highlights include an April 19 meeting against Wichita State and a showdown against Oral Roberts on May 16. The Shockers and Golden Eagles were both NCAA tourney teams a year ago.
In Big 12 Conference action, Anderson's club will play host to Texas A&M, Kansas, Nebraska and Texas Tech. The Cornhuskers advanced to the College World Series last season.
Oklahoma State will open the season at a round-robin tournament in Mobile, Ala., a tourney in which the Cowboys will face a pair of NCAA Tournament teams. The Cowboys square off against South Alabama in their season opener on February 10 and will play Arkansas Feb. 11. The tourney concludes with Anderson's club battling George Mason.
Following the tournament in Mobile, Oklahoma State will play its next 11 games in Stillwater before leaving for a three-game series against Pepperdine March 10-12 in Malibu, Calif. The Waves were 41-23 in 2005 and earned an NCAA Regional berth.
The Cowboys open Big 12 Conference play March 24 when they travel to Austin to take on defending national champion Texas at Disch-Falk Field. Oklahoma State was 2-3 against coach Augie Garrido's club in 2005.
Another highlight on the schedule is the annual Bedlam series against Oklahoma. Considered one of the top college baseball rivalries in the nation, the Cowboys and Sooners will open their series May 12 at Drillers Stadium in Tulsa, Okla. The series then shifts to Oklahoma City's SBC Bricktown Ballpark for the final two games.
The 2006 Big 12 Baseball Tournament will be held at SBC Bricktown Ballpark May 24-28, while the NCAA Tournament gets underway on June 2.
