Cowboys Take out Runnin' Rebels, 80-62
December 01, 2005 | Cowboy Basketball
The significance of that number is that it ties Coach Sutton with Lefty Driesell for fifth place on the all-time career victories list. Sutton is 786-300 in his 36th year as a Division I head coach.
Oklahoma State forced 27 turnovers by the Runnin' Rebels and scored 31 points off those miscues. The lone highlight of UNLV's team was Louis Amundson who recorded a double-double with 25 points and 10 rebounds. The Rebels did shoot 56.1 percent from the floor, but was limited to just 41 attempts.
For the fourth time in six games this season, five different Cowboys scored in double figures. Joining Johnson in the double-figure scoring list were JamesOn Curry with 16, Byron Eaton with 13, David Monds with 11 and Mario Boggan with 11.
Oklahoma State took a 21-point lead five minutes into the second period and it appeared that UNLV was done. That was not the case, however, as the Runnin' Rebels went on a 16-4 run over a five minute period to cut the lead to single digits at 64-55. The Cowboys stymied the run and went back up by 20 at 80-60 with 1:26 remaining in the game.
OSU will return to action on Saturday, Dec. 3, as the Cowboys host the SMU Mustangs at 7 p.m. inside Gallagher-Iba Arena. The game will be televised by the Cowboy Sports Network.
