Eight Cowboys earn All-Big 12 Conference honors
November 30, 2005 | Cowboy Football
Woods, a junior wide receiver from Oklahoma City, and Hilliard, a junior offensive lineman from New Orleans, were both named to the 2005 All-Big 12 second team as voted on by the league's head coaches. Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own players.
Six other Cowboys earned honorable mention all-conference honors. Those players include junior defensive lineman Victor DeGrate, freshman running back Mike Hamilton, senior offensive lineman Charlie Johnson, senior kick returner Daniel McLemore, senior linebacker Jamar Ransom and senior safety Jamie Thompson.
Woods, who earned second-team All-Big 12 honors for the second-straight season, finished his junior campaign with 56 catches for 879 yards and had eight of OSU's 11 touchdown grabs. He caught at least one pass in every game this season and has a 21-game streak dating back to last season. Woods caught 10 passes in a game twice this season and topped 100 receiving yards three times.
Hilliard started all 11 games at right tackle for the Cowboys and was pivotal in paving the way for Hamilton to rush for an OSU freshman record 961 yards. He was an honorable mention all-conference choice last season.
Among the highlights of those Cowboys earning honorable mention honors:
DeGrate led OSU with five sacks and 11 tackles for loss from his defensive end spot. He finished fifth on the squad with 52 tackles and also forced three fumbles and had three pass breakups.
Hamilton was the second-leading rusher in the Big 12 among running backs with 961 yards. He had three 100-yard rushing games and was only the second OSU freshman to rush for more than 800 yards.
Johnson made a successful position switch from tight end to left tackle, where he started eight games in '05.
McLemore racked up 638 yards on kickoff returns, the second-highest total in school history. He averaged 23.6 yards per kick return and also returned 21 punts for an average of eight yards per return.
Ransom led OSU in tackles with 99. After converting to linebacker from safety, Ransom had four games where he finished with double-digit tackles. He also forced three fumbles and had two sacks.
Thompson recorded 83 tackles, good for second on the Cowboys. He also ranked second with eight tackles for loss and 4.5 sacks.
