Cowboy Head Coach Named District Coach of the Year

Oklahoma State's men's cross country coach Dick Weis was named District V Coach of the Year after his team won the Midwest Regional and then placed eighth at the NCAA Championships last week.

Being named coach of the year is anything but new to the Weis. Now in his 23rd season at OSU, the Montreal, Canada native received the honor six times beginning in 1995 through 2003.

Despite the success that he has had this season, Weis still credits the award to the people around him.

“I receive the award, but I credit the people who put so much work into this program,” Weis said. “There is no way I would win this award without the kids, the assistant coaches, the graduate assistants, the secretaries and all of the other people that support this program.”

“I also give much credit to our assistant coach Dave Smith,” Weis added. “He does an incredible job with this team, especially with recruiting the young talent that helps us to achieve these kinds of seasons.”
