OSU Faces OU in 100th Bedlam Game
Oklahoma State closes out the 2005 regular season Saturday afternoon in Norman when the Cowboys face the Oklahoma Sooners. It's the 100th renewal of the Bedlam Series and the game is scheduled to kick off at 2:30 p.m. It will be broadcast regionally on ABC.
Records/Rankings
Oklahoma State enters the final week of the regular season with an overall record of 4-6 and a Big 12 mark of 1-6. The Cowboys have split their last two, including a 24-17 win over Texas Tech and a 44-34 loss at Baylor last week. Oklahoma heads into its final regular-season game with an overall record of 6-4 and a league mark of 5-2. The Sooners lost at Texas Tech 23-21 last week. Neither team is ranked.
On the Air
Saturday's Bedlam game will be broadcast to a regional television audience on ABC. Terry Gannon, Jamal Anderson and Dave LaMont will call the game for the network. The game is also being broadcast live on the Cowboy Radio Network with Dave Hunziker, John Holcomb and Robert Allen describing the action. The game is also available on SIRIUS Satellite Radio, channel 147.
On the Air II
Saturday's game will be OSU's third television appearance of the season and the 58th appearance since the beginning of competition in the Big 12 Conference. It will be Oklahoma State's 26th all-time appearance on ABC as the Cowboys have a 13-12 record in games on that network. 2005 will mark the seventh-straight season the OSU-OU game has been televised and the third-consecutive year it has been on ABC.
OSU-OU Series History
The series began in 1904 with a game in Guthrie won by the Sooners 75-0. Now, 99 games later, the series has evolved into one of the most colorful in-state rivalries in college football. OU has a lopsided 76-16-7 edge in on-the-field results, but the teams have split the last 10 meetings, and the Cowboys have won two of the last five played in Norman.
Series Bits
The series began in 1904 and OU won the first 11 games played between the state schools. OSU's first win was in 1917 in Oklahoma City by a 9-0 margin. Oklahoma State's widest margin of victory in the series was a 47-0 shutout in 1945. OU's widest margin of victory was the 75-0 shutout in the series' very first game in 1904. Over the past 13 years, neither team has won more than two straight. OU won back-to-back in 1993-94, 1999-00 and 2003-04. OSU won back-to-back in 1997-98 and 2001-02. The last shutout in the series was OSU's 12-0 win in 1995. Since 1984, at least one team has been nationally ranked 13 times, and six times since ‘84, both OSU and OU have entered the Bedlam game ranked nationally.
OSU Last Week
Oklahoma State outscored Baylor 34-6 over the final 31 minutes of the game, but it wasn't enough as the Cowboys fell to the Bears, 44-34, in Waco. Baylor built a 38-0 lead, thanks mainly to five first-half turnovers by the Cowboys. Baylor converted three of those first-half turnovers into points, but had to withstand a second-half OSU rally that fell 10 points short. For the afternoon, Oklahoma State rolled up 473 yards of total offense, 383 of which came through the air. OSU's defense limited Baylor to 46 net rushing yards. OSU held Baylor in check in the second half, allowing the Bears just 107 total yards. On the offensive side for OSU, quarterback Al Peña came off the bench to complete 25-of-42 passes for 351 yards and four touchdowns. Two of his touchdowns were to D'Juan Woods, who had 10 catches for 186 yards on the day. Tailback Mike Hamilton rushed for 73 yards on 18 carries. On the defensive side, linebacker Jamar Ransom had 14 total tackles and Lawrence Pinson added nine. Senior linebacker Paul Duren had eight tackles and a pair of tackles for loss in the game.
OU Last Week
The Sooners suffered a 23-21 loss at Texas Tech when the Red Raiders scored the game-winning touchdown as time expired. OU trailed 10-7 at the half and 17-7 early in the fourth quarter before scoring with 5:57 remaining to pull within three at 17-14. OU scored a go-ahead touchdown with 1:33 remaining on a 13-yard run by Adrian Peterson, but Texas Tech drove 65 yards in 12 plays for the game winner. OU quarterback Rhett Bomar completed 12-of-26 passes for 118 yards and Peterson rushed for 108 yards on 29 carries. Tech quarterback Cody Hodges completed 24-of-37 passes for 232 yards and a pair of touchdowns, while Taurean Henderson was the game's leading rusher with 109 yards on 26 carries.
Head Coach Bob Stoops
OU's head coach is wrapping up his seventh regular season and will bring a career record of 73-16 into Saturday's game against the Cowboys. Stoops has guided the Sooners to three-straight 12-win seasons and five-consecutive bowl games. Stoops came to OU from Florida where he was the assistant head coach and defensive coordinator. He has also coached at Kansas State, Kent State and Iowa.
