Cowboy Golf Completes First Day at Hooters Collegiate Match Play

The second-seeded Cowboys got sidetracked during the first round in their attempt to repeat as the event's champion, losing by a 3-2 count to the No. 15 seed Stanford.
With the loss, OSU fell into a consolation bracket matchup against the seventh-seeded Wildcats. UK's Matt Kohn and OSU redshirt Jonathan Moore were the only players to complete their match with Kohn prevailing, 4 and 3.
OSU will enter tomorrow morning leading in two of the four matches still on the course.
Junior Tyler Leon is dormie against Andy Winings, leading by two with two holes remaining, while senior Zack Robinson is dormie with two holes remaining against Jordan Blann.
Sophomore Pablo Martin is all square with the Wildcats' Dan Woltman with three holes remaining and OSU freshman Trent Leon trails Brad Doster with two holes to play.
Against Stanford, Tyler Leon picked up an impressive victory in his match, winning seven of the first 13 holes against Matt Savage for a 7 and 5 victory.
Martin picked up the squad's other individual win, winning his first two holes against Rob Grube en route to a 5 and 3 victory.
Stanford's Zack Miller won the first two holes against Moore and never trailed on his way to a 2-up win.
Matt Shin of the Cardinal went back and forth with Trent Leon. Shin held the lead on three occasions with Leon squaring it each time before Shin won the last two holes for a 2-up triumph. Kyle Gentry won the first three holes against Robinson and never looked back on his way a 4 and 3 win.
Second-round matches not completed will resume at 8 a.m. (EST) Saturday morning with the third round scheduled to begin at 10.
