Rosholt Shoots Cowgirls past Texas Tech, 5-0
October 06, 2005 | Cowgirl Soccer
Yolanda Odenyo scored first for the Cowgirls in the 11th minute. Sophomore Niccole Grimaldi sent a ball into the box off of a free kick and Odenyo headed in her fifth goal of the year as 473 fans cheered in the bleachers.
Rosholt scored the next two goals to make it 3-0. The first one came in the 38th minute as she spun around and shot from the side, and the ball just curved into the far side of the net past the outstretched hands of Tech keeper Beth Lippert. The goal sent the Cowgirls into the lockerroom with a 2-0 lead.
“We were not too happy with the first half,” head coach Karen Hancock said. “I thought we did not come out and play with the proper intensity to do what we want to do this year. Give the kids credit, we corrected it at halftime and played much better.”
Rosholt's second goal came just two minutes into the second half as she headed in a beautiful cross from Candice Byler.
Rosholt now has 11 goals for the season to move into fifth-place on OSU's single season goals list. She has scored at least two goals in three of OSU's last four games.
Candice Byler netted her first goal of the season in the 62nd minute, and Kalyn Brady capped the scoring with her first goal of the season on a penalty kick in the 70th minute.
“Overall, we are pleased with the way it ended,” Hancock added. “Anytime you score five goals against a conference opponent, it is a good game.”
The Cowgirls responded after being shutout for the first time this season at Colorado by scoring five goals on 28 shots.
Breanna Truelove made her first start at goalie and recorded three saves, while earning her first shutout of the season. Truelove is the third OSU goalie to make a start and play the entire game in goal.
The Cowgirls have two Big 12 road games next weekend. Kansas will host OSU Friday afternoon at 4 p.m., and OSU will travel to Columbia, Mo., for a game against Missouri on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m.
